Pipettes

Lab and Health Care Use Pipettes

Labs, health centers, and schools use pipettes. They measure and move liquids for tests. They do many jobs. For example, they help get samples ready, make stuff for tests, and do titrations. They also measure and move special amounts of liquid stuff.

Pipettes are used a lot in science and medicine. For example, in chemistry labs, biology labs, and test labs.

They also do everyday jobs. For example, making liquids weaker, moving stuff, filling and emptying test tubes, or just moving exact amounts of liquid.

Store pipettes in a clean, dry place. Keep them away from dust or bits in the air.

Pipettes should be stored in racks or stands. These should let air in and be strong. They should hold the pipettes well. Always look for cracks or scratches on the pipette tip. Regularly check pipettes for damage. Make sure the pipette still measures right.

Pipettes Measure and Move Lab Liquids

They’re used for many jobs in chemistry, biology, and lab tests. They come in different shapes and sizes.

There are three main kinds of pipettes. They are the volumetric pipette, the micropipette, and the transfer pipette.

  1. The volumetric pipette measures and moves set amounts of liquid. It has marks to show the amount. It uses a rubber bulb to suck up and let out the liquid.

  2. The micropipette handles tiny amounts of liquids. It often has buttons and a digital display. It sucks liquid up with a vacuum or pushes it out with pressure.

  3. The transfer pipette moves set amounts of liquid to other containers. The user squeezes a rubber bulb to suck up and let out the liquid. It is important to check the amount of liquid to avoid errors.

There are also five other kinds of pipettes for specific jobs.

They are the serological pipette, the Mohr pipette, the automatic pipette, the glass micropipette, and the filter pipette.

The serological pipette measures small volumes of liquid. It is used for tests.

The Mohr pipette measures exact volumes of liquid. It is used for accurate measurements.

The automatic pipette uses motors to handle liquids. It is used in busy labs.

The glass micropipette measures very small amounts. It is often used in research labs.

The filter pipette filters out dirty bits from a liquid. It is used to prepare samples or to clean liquids.

Pipette Tips

In short, there are two main types of pipettes and five other special types. All pipettes measure and move lab liquids. To keep them working right, check for cracks or scratches. Make sure they still measure right. Store them in a clean, dry place away from dirt.
