Guard Shacks with Ballistic Ratings Need The Correct Glass

Let’s look at the different types of ballistic glass that can be installed in a ballistic guard shack! The first one is for an upper level three. This is by far the most popular in ballistic rated guard shacks. Probably nine out of every 10 ballistic buildings, it’s fair to say, is a level three. The glass is a little over an inch thick in most cases, unless it’s insulated. That protects against all handguns, five shots and a 12 inch square. It can handle that.

The second type of ballistic glass  is a level eight, and this is about one and three quarter inches thick. They go up to three and a quarter to three and five, six, six inches thick when they are insulated. The level eight can handle three 008, which shoots 147 green bullet at 2700 feet per second. So this piece of glass can handle five shots and a 12 inch by 12 inch square. It is installed for special occasions where a client needs that extra level of security.

What is a ballistic rating and how does it apply to Guard Shack with Ballistic Ratings?

A ballistic rating is a measure of the ability of a material or structure to withstand ballistic threats, such as gunfire or explosions. This rating is typically expressed as a numerical value and represents the level of protection provided by the material or structure against ballistic threats.

The rating is determined by subjecting the material to ballistic testing, which involves firing rounds of varying calibers and velocities at the material to determine its ability to resist penetration. The testing is conducted according to specific guidelines and standards established by organizations such as the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) or the Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

The ballistic rating assigned to a material or structure can vary depending on its intended use and the level of threat it is designed to protect against. For example, ballistic vests worn by law enforcement officers may have different ratings
